SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The NP is a clinician who demonstrates clinical expertise and leadership skills in the area of Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation. The NP uses clinical and academic skills in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of both inpatient and outpatient pediatric patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).

The NP is a member of an interdisciplinary stem cell transplant team that requires effective communication and collaboration with critical team members at Penn State, in addition to collaborating with institutions and agencies. Requires close working program-related development with the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Medical Director and the Pediatric HSCT Nurse Coordinator. The role requires complex critical thinking, an understanding of research principles and practices, and leadership that improves the quality of care for children who undergo HSCT.

In collaboration with the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Medical Director, the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant NP manages therapeutic regimens for acute and chronic problems associated with both autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation. The NP provides anticipatory guidance, medical management, patient and family education, and psychological and emotional support. The NP has full prescriptive authority which includes schedule II through V controlled substances. This position will provide both inpatient and outpatient patient care Monday through Friday.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing with clinical specialization required.
  • Two (2) years' work experience as a RN required.
  • Current licensed to practice as a CRNP by Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Certification as an NP in the area of practice specialization is preferred.
